For the First Time

A Poem

Every day, every sunrise,

we see for

the first time.

Each sunset a dream,

only ever

left behind,

memories never more

than echoes in

our minds,

neurological patterns

to trick us out

of madness,

electrical ladders

we climb out

of darkness.

Every kiss, every crying

eye, the first of

it’s kind.

Our reflections in

mirrors, the taste

of water,

our breath, our

fingers counted

in fives.

Right now, and

forever, for

the first time.
